300 U.S. Marines ‘En Route’ to Taliban

An estimated 300 U.S. Marines are heading to a Taliban stronghold in the southern Afghanistan province of Helmand, one of the deadliest regions of the ongoing war for coalition forces located along the Pakistan border, reports Marine Corps Times.

The American troops are expected to reach their destination — where the Taliban has largely reversed previous U.S./NATO coalition gains — by the end of this month. Nearly all of Helmand has once again fallen under the control of the Taliban. Helmand sits next to Kandahar province, widely known as the birthplace of the Taliban.

The 300 additional Marines, with the appropriate support, “can absolutely make a difference in Helmand province,” retired Gen. David Petraeus, who served as the top commander of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan between 2010 to 2011, told Marine Corps Times.

He added that the Marines’ advise-and-assist mission could provide the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) “the support they need to reverse the momentum of the Taliban in that important province that sits astride the critical ‘Ring Road’ that connects the southern and western parts of the country to Kabul.”

Why do you people feel the need to tell the enemy what you intend to do, and when you are going to do it? I have to wonder where the wisdom of that action resides!

We did not have to know such information of troops “enroute.” Such announcements were typical of Obama and his sophomoric grand standing.
For the sake of every one of those 300 Marines, the matter should have been kept as covert, the enemy should not be informed via any means concerning U.S. troop deployments, and an announcement from a non-government source does nothing but satisfy placing a headline on the Internet to give the impression of being “in the know.”
What ignoramus thought it would be timely to announce what Dept. of Navy was not announcing? Silence is golden and can be of benefit to our troops.

  3. I thought Trump was going to put a stop this “leaking” info. on our troop placements. No surprise here. Go there, kick ass and leave.

The first thing that must be “put-down” is the idiotic ROE aka: Rules of Engagement! The basic rule of engagement in the Corps is….”Know your enemy, Find your enemy, Kill your enemy”! Only Politicians are dumb enough to believe that ROE’s make combat safer for civilians, they are the first ones killed by enemies like the Taliban! No wonder we haven’t won a war since 1945.

IF this sort of IDIOCY had taken place in WW II… the guilty parties would have been tried, found guilty in SHORT ORDER and after losing a BREIF appeal… SHOT!
