Durbin: Trump’s Border Wall a ‘Political Stunt’

Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), said President Donald Trump’s proposed U.S.-Mexico border wall was “a political stunt.”

Durbin said, “The Democrats in the house and the senate are ready to work and cooperate with the White House to keep the government open. But we told the president weeks ago, don’t try any political stunts, don’t put any poison pills into this process. Let’s just do the responsible important work of funding this government. We know what this wall is all about. This was a promise made by the president during his campaign. Don’t you remember he said the Mexicans were going to pay for it? Now we know it’s going to cost 20 to 70 billion dollars for this wall. We have Democrats and Republicans all along the border opposing this deal. It’s a political stunt, an obsession for the president that should not shut down our government.”

He added, “I hope the president will back off. To think that he would consider shutting down the government of the United States of America over this outlandish proposal of a border wall which we can’t even pay for at this point and is opposed by Democrats and Republicans all along the border, that would be the height of irresponsibility. He would not want that to define his first 100 days.”

Either get serious about the border wall of get the hell out. The time has past
as have the excuses put forth by the GOP in Congress. We all know that the
Democrat Socialist voted for it including then congressman Barrack Hussein
Obama because it was a strong issue at the time. Now we have moved
forward several years an still Congress is waffling because their political
contributors do not want it. It is either time to do the job to which you were
elected and ran on or face the wrath of the voters in 2018 or beyond. Even
if it means shutting down much of the government it needs to be an item in
the budget. Failure will effect how many Americans vote in the upcoming
election and could well sway the vote costing many running their seat in
Congress. Far to long have they lied to us and given in to the idiots and anti
American fascist in politics and the fools who are rioting in the streets. We
must restore order and the safety and security of American Citizens over the
    corruption of the Lefty.

‘Am in total agreement with contributor James Maxwell! The Republican cowards would rather shiver with fear than get the job done that a resounding win in Nov.2016 gave them.
As a lifetime Republican, I cannot tolerate such Republican congressional cowardice.
Are Republican elected officials so stupid as to believe if they just sit on their hands long enough, they can allow “the clock to run out” without demonstrating the courage we thought they had when elected?
So what if the Democrats force a government shut-down? Doing nothing in Congress is the same as gov’t shut-down! Besides, the BAPF MSM will always lie about and blow things out of proportion about Republicans. It’s all the pathetic group of Democrats, led by the weasel, Schumer, can do.
Go ahead a “shut it down!” Many of the functions of government will still continue, it’s not as negative as it sounds, and President Trump is not going to shut down military cemeteries and national parks as the liar Obama did.
Republicans, don’t allow the losers to bluff you. Elections have consequences and that is what Obama told Republicans when celebrating a Democrat win. Remember?
