Trump To Reduce Spicer’s Role

If a story published by Politico turns out to be accurate, President Trump is thinking of reducing White House press secretary Sean Spicer’s public role, supplanting him with deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the same person who said former FBI director James Comey had committed “atrocities.”

Trump is reportedly unhappy with how combative Spicer has been with the press, and will apparently terminate the practice of Spicer giving daily, on-camera press briefings.

Politico notes that in February, on Fox & Friends, Trump gave himself an A+ for effort, but added, “In terms of messaging, I would give myself a ‘C’ or a ‘C-plus.’ My messaging isn’t good.”

Spicer’s gaffes haven’t helped him, including his claim that Hitler had never used chemical weapons on his own people, for which he later apologized.

Spicer may not be entirely unhappy about the change; in December he acknowledged he would rather not be the only person conducting the daily press briefing. There have been instances where Spicer offered his take on an issue only to have Trump publicly contradict him later.

There have been rumors about Trump offering Spicer’s job to Fox host Kimberly Guilfoyle, but White House officials scotched that, saying the rumors were overblown and “not real.”
